WHY, Windows Helper for Yarn, is a Microsoft Windows 9x shell for the Yarn off-line mail / news reader package. If you can't remember all the Yarn and Yarn utility program names, not to mention all their command line switches, then WHY is for you. WHY brings all those programs and their switches together in one easy to use package.
Click HERE to see a few screen captures from WHY.
WHY requires an installed and working version of Yarn. WHY is known to work with Yarn version 0.92, but will probably work with other versions as well.
Begin the Installation of WHY by putting the self-extracting compressed archive file (why_###.exe) into a temporary directory. Execute the file to extract the installation files. Now, execute setup.exe and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of WHY. Once the installation is finished, you may delete the files from the temporary directory.
The Yarn and Home environment variables must be defined before you start WHY, otherwise WHY will not run. Make sure these variables exist before continuing.
Next, go to WHY's File Menu and choose the Setup option. The Setup Screen is where you tell WHY the names and locations of the various files used by WHY and Yarn. It also contains a number of options that allow you to control how WHY and Yarn will run.
WHY can also be setup to call your favorite Yarn utilities. To do this, go to the Utility Screen and click the Edit button to edit your utilities.
Not a cent, WHY is freeware. WHY is not public domain software. Don Donati retains the Copyright to WHY. Source code will not be released. There is no user support for WHY. WHY is provided "AS IS."
To download WHY 1.51 (why_151.exe, 1381K) click the protocol of your choice: FTP or HTTP.
Send email to me, Don Donati, at ddonati@enteract.com.
Keep in mind that there is always one more bug. Sooner or later WHY will crash. Since WHY is a spare time project, I cannot promise how fast bugs will be fixed, but they will never be fixed if they are not reported.
