Re: Christopher Hitchens
Dear Stuart:
Thank you for your letter of July 3,
2001. Your statement that
"Dr. Kissinger has no intention of repeating his comment about Mr.
Hitchens' views on the Holocaust" is acknowledged by Mr. Hitchens.
Following up on my offer to provide factual details showing the
falsity of Dr. Kissinger's statement that Mr. Hitchens denied the
occurence of the Holocaust, I enclose copies of a sampling of articles
representative of Mr. Hitchens' statements on this subject:
1.
Prepared for the Worst, pp. 345-357, summer 1988
2.
"Diluting Responsibility for the Final Solution,"
(In Hitler's Shadow), New York Newsday, August 23, 1989
3.
"A German Aristocrat's Resistance to the Nazis,"
(Letters to Freya), New York Newsday, July 4, 1990
4.
"A Monster Inside the Average Man," (Ordinary Men),
New York Newsday, March 25, 1992
5.
"Nuremberg: Judgement by Law, Not by Revenge," (The
Anatomy of the Nuremberg Trials), New York Newsday, Oct. 7, 1992
6.
Los Angeles Times article of May 20, 2001
Mr. Hitchens is pleased that you will review these materials
however, in addition, he specifically requests that Dr. Kissinger also
read these materials. (As an aside, I welcome your review of Mr. Hitchens'
writings concerning the reality of the Holocaust.)
At this time, the already published statement of Dr. Kissinger
remains uncorrected. I am sure your client recognizes how difficult it is
for the truth to catch up to the lie. Mr. Hitchens requires that Dr.
Kissinger issue an apology based on his review of Mr. Hitchens' writings
on the Holocaust. My client expects that such an apology will be conveyed
to him by July 23, 2001.
Sincerely,
Jonathan W. Lubell
