: Having just bought this game, it has taken me all morning to stop it from locking up, every thing is now fine, but i cannot hear the voices from the vidbots in the booths, so i am trying to lip read? I HAVE WIN ME,The music is fine everything is tickety boo except for this problem.
: Can somebody please help.
I had this problem with my old Win 95 system.
I'm happy to report that I recently installed and
played Obsidian a few times on my newer Windows
ME system without any significant problems. Here
are some suggestions regarding the sound problem
that have worked over the years:
*Make sure that your system is set up properly
according to the game instructions and the readme
file that loads with the game. Also, ensure that
you aren't running any other programs (such as
virus checkers and screen savers) while you are
running Obsidian. To verify this, reboot your
computer and hit the "Ctrl-Alt-Delete" keys to
get a list of all the programs you are running.
Close each program except for "Explorer" and
"Systray." This way you will not be running
anything that might conflict with Obsidian. Then
try running the game and see if this solves the
problem.
Also, here are the sound-related comments from
the Obsidian FAQ on the now-defunct SegaSoft
site:
*Be sure your computer's sound card is a 16bit
card, and not an 8bit sound card. An 8bit sound
card could cause problems with your video as well
as the sound of Obsidian.
*Obsidian uses Quick Time to play transition
video sequences. Quick time is not compatible
with all sound cards. If you are using an Aptiva
computer for example, or any other computer that
has a built in sound card on the mother board,
you may have to obtain the latest sound drivers.
*If the sound is not in synch with the video,
then go into the control panel folder and double
click on the Quick Time 32 icon. A window
called "Quick Time Control Panel" will open.
Click on the box at the bottom called "More."
When you click on the "more" button you will see
a row of tabs appear at the top of the window.
Click on the tab that says "Audio." Once you have
clicked on the "Audio" tab the window will
change. In the lower left side of this window you
will see a small check box that says "Automatic
Rate Adjustment." Check this box and apply the
changes.
*Make sure you do not have any other programs
running. Some programs will mute the sound. For
example, the program "Fax Works" will mute the
sound in Obsidian. If you are having trouble with
your sound, you may want to try to obtain the
latest drivers for your sound card.
Hope this helps. As I said, I was able to install
the game without significant problems (although
there was that annoying midi hang/drop out in the
Art Gallery--same as with Windows 95). Assuming
that you have adequate RAM (including RAM on your
sound card), one of the above suggestions should
solve your problem. If all else fails, try the
old "uninstall/reinstall." I found that this
sometimes works with those persnickety programs.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
