Paris promises to return nightly

This scene forces the audience to realize, for the first time, that Paris' love for Juliet must have been genuine. This rather sympathetic portrayal, at this late stage of the play, makes us realize that we were "against" the man only because of our tendency to hope for the best for Romeo and Juliet. We feel a poignant sadness, and then, we feel deceived, we feel cheated, we feel outraged, and we want this thing to be over, for once and for all!
