"Then, I defy you, stars!"
Romeo's line might be considered a blasphemy, by some. It may be that Shakespeare
intended this defiance as a rejection of the gods, or of God himself. This
line may also be a reference to the description of the two as "star-crossed
lovers," at the play's beginning. It could also just be the first thing that
popped into Shakespeare's head.
